Boise Bicycle Project collecting bike donations for annual Holiday Kids Bike Giveaway

The nonprofit is gathering bicycles and donations to build dream bikes for kids in need across the Treasure Valley.

BOISE, Idaho — The Boise Bicycle Project (BBP) is looking for gently used bikes to giveaway to kids in need around the Treasure Valley this coming holiday season.

The bike project is hosting a collection event Saturday Oct. 26 at its headquarters on 1027 S. Lusk Street in Boise from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

You can drop your used bikes in the alley behind BBP.

If you can’t make it down to the bike project’s headquarters, they have partnered with Roundhouse to provide four remote locations.

  • The Clara, 225 S. Linder Rd., Eagle, ID
  • Dovetail, 1350 N Wenn Wy., Meridian, ID
  • Columbia Village, 2500 E. Red Cedar Ln., Boise, ID
  • Southside Townhomes, 1004 Southside Blvd, Nampa, ID

Roundhouse is a multifamily housing development and operations company.

BBP is looking for children's bikes, sizes 16, 20 and 24 inches as well as BMX sized bikes.

They are also looking for volunteers to help make sure each child gets their dream bike.

“I think for us, the holiday kids' bike giveaway really demonstrates the mission of our organization. We're creating community around bicycles. We're inviting 500 kids and families who maybe want to be able to access bicycles otherwise, but we're also inviting 200 volunteers down to welcome them and to share space and to create what Boise could be." Said Executive Director Devin McComas.

McComas told KTVB that they work with community partners to identify kids in need of bicycles.

They then have the kids draw a picture of their "dream bike," which staff and volunteers work to build and design to give to them for the holidays.

"I think it's the most magical day in Boise. This is the block with the happiest people in Boise. If you're a child, maybe you drew your dream bike in November. It could be a bicycle that's unicorn themed, or has flames coming out of the back. And you come down here with your family on Saturday, December 14, we'll greet you.” McComas said.
