Construction affecting downtown Boise businesses, say wait will be worth it

At least five major construction projects are happening in downtown Boise, which some business owners say is causing a headache.

BOISE, Idaho — Amid ongoing construction in downtown Boise, road closures are affecting not just drivers, but also businesses. Crazy Neighbor, which is located on Grove Street between 14th and 15th Street, said foot traffic has been slowing down.

However, they are excited for the construction to be over and the end product to come to fruition.

“We are going to have a lot more traffic down here in this area,” said Cinda Robbins, manager of Crazy Neighbor. “It will be more of a destination of different things to do and be more inviting.”

Robbins said she has heard from customers that it was hard to find her store amid the construction, even though they had prepared for it.

“We knew it was coming, but wow it’s harsh,” Robbins said.

Jennifer Hensley, the director of the Downtown Business Association, said while construction can be a headache for stores, it’s inevitable with how much Boise is growing.

“The reality is that we are in a growing city in a growing region,” Hensley said.

She said businesses do remain open – even if customers have to park in a parking garage and walk a block or two to get to them.

“They are still here serving you and giving you everything you love,” Hensley said.
