BOISE, Idaho — Standing 35 feet tall, adorned with over 10,000 lights, the Idaho State Capitol tree has been transported by the Idaho Department of Transportation to its place in front of the Capitol steps on Monday morning.
Like years past, the tree will be a blue spruce and will be decorated with 11,000 LED lights, said a news release.
ITD has transported the state's tree for more than 20 years, and this is no different. With Boise Police offering traffic control, and Idaho Department of Lands cutting the tree, the tree will be laid down on ITD's 50-foot-transport truck and taken to the Capitol. Upon arrival, the tree will be lowered into its designated 9-foot-hole for this very occasion, said the release.
"We are honored to be part of a tradition that brings so much joy to Idahoans. We look forward to it every year," Foreman Travis Dodd said.
This year, and next year, there will be short delivery trips for ITD, as the trees will be harvested from behind the Capitol within the 600 block of West State Street, said the release. The tree was selected by the Capitol administration team in August.
Governor Brad Little, and First Lady Teresa Little, are planning the Statehouse Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony to begin at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 30 on the Statehouse Front Steps, said the release.
For those heading for the hills to cut their own tree, ITD wants to remind Idahoans of the importance of having an emergency kit in their car that includes:
- Flashlight
- Jumper cables
- Kitty Litter
- Chains
- Small shovel
- First Aid kid
- Food and water
- Small sleeping bag/blanket, winter coat, gloves and waterproof boots
- Ice scraper
- Phone charger
