BOISE, Idaho — The Boise Fire Department revealed their new dive boat Friday afternoon.
Paul Roberts, Division Chief of Special Operations, spoke about the boat's capabilities.
The new boat has Marty Sam's name inscribed on the back of it along with the words, "Never Forget" in memory of a Boise firefighter who died in the 1970s while assisting the Valley County Sheriff's Office during a rescue on Payette Lake.
Pictured below is the back of the new dive boat:
The new boat will replace the one that was damaged last spring during a routine river rescue training.
The previous boat was severely damaged on April 30 when it lost power and became wedged under the Broadway Avenue Bridge.
The Boise Fire Department's boat was badly damaged during a training exercise on April 30, 2019.
While escaping the boat one of the firefighters suffered minor injuries.
After the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers reduced the water flow on the Boise River firefighters were able to dislodge the boat from underneath the bridge.
