'Boise has been booming:' New hotel helps fill needs in downtown Boise

Hotel Renegade is a 122-key boutique hotel featuring a restaurant, coffee shop and rooftop bar that opened its doors to the public Tuesday.

BOISE, Idaho — Boise's newest hotel opened its doors to the public on Tuesday, May 28, helping meet growing needs in a growing city. The Hotel Renegade is a 122-key boutique hotel located on W. Grove St. in downtown Boise.

"It offers something that's unique," Hotel Renegade General Manager Jussi Santa said. "We like to think of it as really where rustic meets refined - which is really at the foundation of what Boise is about."

Hotel Renegade features the Wisconsin-inspired Baraboo Supper Club, Blue Collar Coffee Co., and The Highlander Rooftop Bar on the 8th floor of the hotel.

"It's something different, that's very complementary to what has already existed here in Boise," Santa said.

Offering accommodations - while also accommodating some of the city's demands for hotel space.

"We are seeing a need for hotels in Boise," Visit Boise Executive Director Carrie Westergard said. "We've had such growth over the last 10 years."

Westergard says that it's important for a city to have a mix of hotels with different price points and amenities, and that hotels can play a significant role in which events a city attracts.

"Most events and meetings, they want to stay in the fewest hotels possible," Westergard said. "But since we have a big selection of hotels, and they're all very walkable and very close together - it makes it a little bit more interesting."

There are approximately 1,300 hotel rooms in downtown Boise, with another 500 hotel rooms on the way through other projects. Filling vacancies for hotel demand - and economic growth.

"This influx of building that's happening really just attracts a whole new level of spending and projects that kind of get added," Westergard said. "Because you'll see with the new Hotel Renegade, there are several different restaurant concepts. Some of these other buildings that are happening in downtown are also bringing in retail and restaurants and different experiences that we can all enjoy."
