City of Boise investing in 95 homes for residents exiting homelessness

The investment will add an expansion to New Path Community Housing, an apartment complex that provides transitional housing and supportive services.

BOISE, Idaho — The City of Boise is making a major investment in transitional housing for its most vulnerable residents. The city announced plans to invest in new homes for residents exiting homelessness.

The investment will expand a project called New Path Community Housing, an apartment complex near downtown that provides affordable housing and supportive services.

Supportive services include case management, healthcare, and counseling designed to support someone transitioning out of homelessness.

New Path currently has 40 units, and the new expansion aims to add 95 new apartments over the next two years.

"Supportive housing is a proven solution to homelessness," City of Boise Housing Advisor Nicki Hellenkamp said. "It provides both a safe, affordable place for people to live - and supportive services to make sure that they can succeed in housing and thrive in our community."

New Path is similar to another complex in Boise called Valor Pointe, which offers housing and supportive services for veterans.

On Tuesday, Boise announced a partnership with The Pacific Companies to provide $5.5 million in gap financing to build the expansion. Money for the project also comes from private philanthropic donors and federal funds.

The city expects residents to start moving into the new apartments in two years.
