Boise man's body identified after being struck by car in Fruitland

59-year-old Frederick Benjamin, from Boise, died Wednesday in Fruitland.

BOISE, Idaho — A 59-year-old man from Boise has died, after police said he was hit by a car. 

In an update on Thursday, the Ada County Coroner's Office released the identify of the man hit by the car. 59-year-old Frederick Benjamin died from blunt force injuries, sustained by the car hitting him. He was pronounced dead in the ICU of Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center. 

On Tuesday night, Idaho State Police (ISP) responded to reports of a car versus pedestrian accident that happened at roughly 10:15 p.m. in Fruitland. 

Police said that a 42-year-old man from Payette was driving eastbound on Northwest 16th Street in Fruitland. The driver was in a silver 2007 Chevrolet Uplander. 

The driver struck the 59-year-old man from Boise, who was walking in the lane of travel, ISP said. 

The man was taken by air ambulance to an area hospital, where he died on Wednesday. 

The incident is being investigated by Idaho State Police. ISP were supported by Payette County Sheriff's Office, Fruitland Police Department and Payette County Paramedics.
