Boise River Greenbelt sections close for emergency bank repair work

Sections of the Boise River Greenbelt will be temporarily closed for three bank stabilization projects. Paths impacted are expected to reopen in April.

BOISE, Idaho — The Boise Parks and Recreation department will be closing sections of the Boise River Greenbelt for three projects aimed at improving the integrity of the Boise River riverbank.

In addition to two other temporary path closures, the city will close the path near Wylie Lane and the Willow Lane Athletic Complex, effective Monday, Feb. 26.

The bank stabilization projects and subsequent closures are expected to be completed and restored by April, according to a statement from Boise Parks and Rec.

Parks and Rec said that bank erosion due to flooding in recent years is the reason for the emergency repair work.

The department stated the improvements are scheduled in accordance with an anticipated increase in Boise River water levels this spring.

"These projects are necessary to improve the riverbank and stability of this important transportation corridor long-term, and we appreciate the public's patience and cooperation as the work wraps up before the busy summer season," said Boise Parks and Recreation Director Doug Holloway.

Greenbelt closures for bank stabilization work:

  • Pathway next to the Lander Street Water Renewal Facility at Veterans Memorial Parkway
  • An interior pathway near Veterans Memorial Park
  • Pathway adjacent to Wylie Lane near the Willow Lane Athletic Complex

"Our team works hard to minimize closures along the Greenbelt whenever possible as we know it is an important transportation and recreation route," Holloway said.

Alternative routes and pathway detours will be posted along the greenbelt.
