Boise State University to unveil new semiconductor, first of its kind at a school

The AIXTRON machine for semiconductors is a first of its kind to be at a university in the U.S. It's one of the most "capable systems in the world."

BOISE, Idaho — Boise State University (BSU) is set to unveil a first of its kind semiconductor on their campus on Thursday.

The AIXTRON machine for semiconductors, which is a first of its kind at a university in the U.S., is one of the most "capable systems in the world," a news release said.

The unveiling is set to take place Thursday, August 8, in the Micron Center for Materials Research.

This new machine is capable of "growing incredibly thin semiconductor films" and helps students gain hands-on training. This helps enable BSU graduates to compete for jobs in semiconductor production.

The debut takes place on day two of the national Council on Competitiveness summit on the BSU campus. In a way to maintain competitiveness in the global economy, the Council on Competitiveness summit aims to explore Idaho's journey towards becoming an innovation hub, where research, development and deployment of new technologies are being coupled with manufacturing, business and industry.
