Boise State University welcomes new class of 2028

“I am excited and nervous all at the same time,” said Gwenny Shields, a first-year at Boise State University. She moved in along with 2,200 other new Broncos.

BOISE, Idaho — Over 2,200 new students packed their bags and moved to Boise, to start school at Boise State University on Monday, Aug. 19. Students said they were excited and nervous, but ready for a new adventure.

Several volunteers and housing staff helped move them in. Each student was allowed to have two helpers and two vehicles, according to Boise State’s move-in website. They each had one hour to fully move in.

“The only thing I am nervous for is my mom – because I know she is going to cry,” said Gwenny Shields, who moved to Boise from Oregon for school.

Shields said she chose BSU because she was ready for a big change, but still wanted to be somewhat close to home.

“I am excited and nervous all at the same time,” Shields said.

Resident assistants also helped with the move-in process and said their goal was to make the new students feel welcomed and at home.

“My freshman year I was just so nervous about where do I go what do I do—like what am I doing,” said Reagan Wiedenfield, who is a resistant assistant for the 2024-25 academic year.

Wiedenfield said she wants to show the first year students that they will be OK – and that BSU is a welcoming community for them to make friends in.

“You will find your people you will find your classes – I will help you find them,” Widenfield said. “Just go with the flow for a little bit.”

School starts for BSU on Aug. 19.
