Boise adds plastic food tubs to their recycling capabilities

Plastic #5 is being taken by Boise recycling programs, due to upgrades at the local recycling center.

BOISE, Idaho — Boise's blue recycling carts will now be accepting plastic #5 food containers.

Republic Services made some upgrades to their Idaho Recycling Center, which allows Boise residents to recycle containers often found in the refrigerators. Things like yogurt, cottage cheese, sour cream, salsa, etc. can now be recycled by Republic Services.

"Boiseans frequently tell us that they want to recycle more," said Peter McCullough, program manager for City of Boise Materials Management. "We appreciate Republic Services' investment in our local recycling center, which will keep these plastics out of our local landfill and recycle them domestically into new products."

Boise recycling can also accept plastic #1 and #2, if cleaned and dried.
