IDAHO COUNTY, Idaho — A man has died, and a woman is in the hospital, after a brake failure crash in Idaho County.

Idaho State Police (ISP) said the crash happened on Oct. 5 around 3:00 p.m. close to Elk City Summit Rd. and Newsome Creek Rd. in Idaho County.

Police said a 57-year-old man from Nampa was driving a white 2001 Ford F350 headed west on Elk City Rd. when the cars brakes stopped working. The man drove off the road, up an embankment and overturned.

One of the passengers, a 41-year-old man, died at the scene and another passenger, a 62-year-old woman, was taken to the hospital via air-ambulance. The driver wasn't injured.

Police do not believe alcohol or speed were factors in the crash, both men were not wearing seatbelts. ISP is still investigating.
