BOISE, Idaho — Looking to lockdown your love interest or just lock in something different to do on Valentine's Day? The Old Idaho Penitentiary is having its yearly "Romancing the Pen: Love and Lockup" event. People can explore the old grounds, learn stories about couples that were locked up together, take photos and read old love letters.
"Romancing the Pen: Love and Lockup" is on Wednesday, Feb. 14 from noon until midnight. Tickets are $10 each or two for $14. For more information or to buy tickets people can go to history.idaho.gov/oldpen/.
Guided tours will be offered throughout the day on a first-come, first-serve basis. The event also has hot drinks, a pop-up exhibit and a slideshow with stories of couples at the penitentiary, from those who committed crimes together to those who served time together.
The Old Idaho Penitentiary was a working prison from 1872 to 1973. Open for 101 years, the prison walls saw over 13,000 inmates. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973.
