BOISE, Idaho — A brush fire is burning near Micron in Boise. The fire is now being called the Plex Fire. As of Wednesday night, the fire was 90% contained. However, a change in wind patterns has impacted the fire, causing growth.
As of 3:35 p.m. on Thursday Sept. 5, the fire was contained. Boise Fire said they expect the fire to be controlled by Sept. 7 at 8 p.m.
In an updated at roughly 2 p.m., fire officials estimate they will have the fire contained by 3 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 5, and full control of fire by Saturday, Sept. 7 by 8 p.m.
At roughly 9:50 a.m., Les Bois Junior High has had their power restored.
As of roughly 9 a.m. on Thursday, Trail Wind Elementary School's power has been restored, but Les Bois Junior High is still without power.
On Thursday, Sept. 5, Boise School District reported via email that two of their schools are without power as a result of the Plex Fire. There is also transportation delays. Boise Fire Department, Boise Police Department and Idaho Power are working together to regain power at Les Bois Junior High and Trail Wind Elementary School.
As a precaution, due to air quality, all Boise School District outdoor activities have been moved indoors for the day. For sports and other extracurricular activities, an announcement will be made later Thursday.
With road closures in the area of Les Bois Junior High and Trail Wind Elementary, Boise School District reminds drivers to use caution and that school buses may be delayed.
Additionally, Lucky Peak State Park announced via Facebook that Sandy Point and Discovery Units are closed on Thursday, due to the fire. The state park will update the public Friday morning as to what they're plans moving forward will be.
As of Thursday, Sept. 5, Boise Fire Department (BFD) announced on X, formerly Twitter, that there was a wind shift, causing a Code Red to be sent to several residents in the area. Residents in the Columbia Rd from Amber Ridge Ave to E Plexi Ct. area were informed of the Code Red. No evacuations as of 6:30 a.m. on Thursday.
As of Thursday morning at roughly 7 a.m., Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has closed Highway 21 from South Technology Way to Warm Springs Avenue.
BFD said at 8:13 p.m., the fire burning near South Eyele Avenue and East Plexi Court was about 90% contained. The BLM was transferred command to lead fire mitigation efforts. That containment number has changed as of Thursday morning, due to a shift in winds.
The fire began roughly at 6 p.m. when the BFD posted to X stating their crews were at the scene. The fire has burned approximately 20 acres as of Wednesday night.
No evacuations are in place, but the fire department said people should avoid the area.
BFD stated Boise and Eagle fire crews will stay on the scene to help with containment efforts and mop up hot spots.
