Boise School District schedules special meeting to discuss safety in schools

The special meeting will be held on Monday, Sept. 23 at 5:30 p.m. to discuss safety and security procedures implemented at the district.

BOISE, Idaho — In a news release sent out on Friday, the Boise School District (BSD) announced that there will be a special meeting to discuss safety and security in schools, following a surge of unsubstantiated threats on social media.

On Monday, Sept. 23, the BSD will host a special meeting to raise public awareness about the district's safety and security procedures at 5:30 p.m. at the District Services Center at 8169 W. Victory Road in Boise.

In the news release, BSD said the special meeting will include, "a presentation by district administration and the Boise Police Department, highlighting many of the safety measures that the Boise School District has implemented to ensure our students and campuses are safe and secure learning environments."

This meeting is in response to both local and national social media threats that have increased in the past few weeks.

"The presentation will also provide an overview of the steps that the District and the Boise Police Department take when conducting investigations of reported threats of school violence," the news release continued. "This will provide valuable insights for the community regarding the comprehensive approach taken by law enforcement and the district to ensure the safety of students and staff."

District parents and staff are encouraged to submit questions or concerns to this link by noon on Monday, to help guide the discussion Monday evening.

Additionally, the school district plans on discussing a calendar change for this school year. BSD is considering revising the calendar to make Tuesday, Nov. 5 a non-school day as many of the district's schools are polling locations for the General Election.

The public is encouraged to submit written testimony or attend this meeting to learn more about district safety measures.

For those who cannot attend, the meeting will also be livestreamed on the district's YouTube page.
