BOISE, Idaho — Boise State Public Radio (BSPR) announced on Monday that it is now the new owner of KWRV 91.9 F.M., a Sun Valley radio station that broadcasts classical music to listeners in central Idaho.
BSPR stated in a news release that it gained ownership of the station after purchasing the license from Minnesota Public Radio, which founded the non-commercial public media in 1993. However, it assured longtime central Idaho listeners that their favorite shows will continue alongside BSPR's service.
"We are proud of Boise State Public Radio's 45-year heritage in the state," General Manager Tom Michael said. "In the past few years, we have expanded our broadcast sites across Idaho, with additions in Lewiston, Pocatello, Cambridge and now Sun Valley. We hope to super-serve the residents of the Wood River Valley with this music service, complementing our existing news service."
President of Minnesota Public Radio Duchesne Drew stated, "This is a great outcome for the station and the community. We know KWRV is in good hands with Boise State Public Radio."
Officials stated that the new KWRV will continue broadcasting its popular music programs: Classical Music (C24), Performance Today, and Pipedreams. However, new programs like the Boise Philharmonic Showcase and Sunday Concert Hall will now be featured.
KWRV will also broadcast Americana, rock, and folk music on World Cafe on weekday evenings, Open Range Radio and Private Idaho on Saturday mornings, BSPR stated.
