Northwest Nazarene University partners with BSU to create an accelerated master's program

In April 2024, NNU students studying STEM can apply to earn credits for Boise State's master's program in engineering, science engineering or computer science.

BOISE, Idaho — Undergraduate STEM students at Northwest Nazarene University seeking a master's program may be able to get their degree a little quicker.

On Friday, Northwest Nazarene University (NNU) and Boise State University (BSU) announced an agreement to allow NNU students to participate in an accelerated master's program. Students will still attend NNU but will earn credits toward a BSU master's degree in engineering, science engineering or computer science.

"This is a win-win," said Dr. Bradley Kurtz-Shaw, NNU's Vice President for Academic Affairs, said in a news release. "Students will have an amazing opportunity to finish with their bachelor's and master's degree at an accelerated rate because of this partnership. We're looking forward to bringing this to fruition."

"On behalf of Boise State, we're really excited about this partnership," said Dr. JoAnn Lighty, Dean of the College of Engineering at BSU. "The College of Engineering at Boise State—which includes computer science as part of our college—is promoting that we work for Idaho by building our workforce. This is a great opportunity for us to continue our collaboration in many fields, especially in our graduate programs."

NNU students wishing to participate in the accelerated master's program must "gain admittance" to one of BSU's master's programs before their senior year. NNU states "During their final year at NNU, they will be full-time resident students at NNU and complete all their course requirements for their BS degree. In addition, they will also take up to two 500-level NNU courses that are pre-approved to count toward both their NNU BS degree and their chosen MS degree."

NNU states the application process opens on April 30, 2025.
