Bus Lines Changing in Ada and Canyon Counties

Valley Regional Transit changed their bus routes in parts of the Treasure Valley. To kickoff the changes, all rides are free this week.

BOISE, Idaho — Valley Regional Transit offers bus rides in Boise, Garden City, Nampa and Caldwell. They said they redesigned their bus systems to include 19 fixed bus routes, improved frequency and longer hours.

Elaine Clegg, CEO of Valley Regional Transit, said they changed 10% of their routes, added routes, consolidated routes and increased frequency. They also started a rideshare program with Lyft for riders to get a $2 Lyft ride from a passenger’s location to the bus stop.

“We have all new brochures, all new signs,” Clegg said. “It's a lot of change. For a lot of people. We think in the end, it's going to be great in terms of attracting ridership.”

Clegg said she hopes the new changes will improve ridership by 20%.

Downtown Boise, Garden City, the Boise Towne Square Mall and the Boise airport will not also have eight buses per hour.

This week, from June 3-8, all buses will be free to kickoff the changes.

“The reason for these changes is to do as much with the funding and the service we have today as we can to better serve riders,” Clegg said. “We know that people like higher frequency, they like longer hours, they like connections. And those are the things we focused on with these changes.”
