CALDWELL, Idaho — There was much to 'bark' about Tuesday at the West Valley Humane Society (WVHS), as Canyon County commissioners cut the ribbon on a roof upgrade for the local animal shelter.
The roof upgrade includes replacing the previous canvas roof with a wood-framed one, adding insulation to the roof and adding floor heating throughout the facility, Canyon County said. The improvements are aimed at helping to provide more temperature control to the area, making it cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. The temperature control helps both the animals and the staff.
The roof wasn't the only project on Canyon County's radar. They completed a warehouse expansion as well, that nearly triples the previous structure that they rent. Canyon County said the additional space allows for more storage for County, Sheriff's Office, and Emergency Management equipment.
The combined projects were completed on budget, thanks to ARPA funds, Canyon County said. The total projected cost of the projects was $3,392,000 - the new warehouse cost the county $2,542,000 and animal shelter roof was $850,000.
The ribbon cutting took place Tuesday morning, but by mid-afternoon, WVHS announced it would be closed for the rest of the day. It is unclear as to why they are closed, but they said they would be updating more on social media.
