BOISE, Idaho — CapEd Credit Union and the Mexican Consulate in Boise are partnering to help improve the financial needs of the Mexican community in Idaho. The organizations held a signing ceremony to make the partnership official on Thursday, May 30.
The organizations signed a "memorandum of understanding," which they said was an agreement on how both CapEd and the consulate will work to assist Mexican nationals through financial inclusion.
The Mexican Consulate said the partnership represents a way to strengthen financial literacy through education and providing resources.
They will help provide multilingual service programs to better reach their members and reach out to and aid Idaho's growing Hispanic community.
"We look forward to being able to identify other opportunities between CapEd and the Mexican consulate. We can help bring people together in our community,” CapEd Chief Marketing Officer Todd Christensen said. "We know that they have a partnership with St. Luke's as a health care provider. We're a financial institution for that financial health, and how can we ensure that the Hispanic community, as it grows and in our community, has access to the financial services that they need?"
The Mexican Consulate said the Hispanic population in Idaho is around 250,000, with the highest demographic group increase in the last decade. The consulate hopes that with this partnership they can continue to fulfill their mission to protect and assist Mexican nationals and the Hispanic community as a whole.
