BOISE, Idaho (AP) - A new National Rifle Association-themed license plate could soon make an appearance on Idaho roads, two years after an earlier NRA design was discontinued for poor sales.
The Spokesman-Review reports that the House Transportation Committee approved the new specialty plate Wednesday afternoon, sending the bill to the full House.
Proponents expect better sales for this design, because the proceeds would benefit the nonprofit arm of the NRA. The gun-rights group's prior plates helped fund state roads.
Each specialty design must sell at least 1,000 plates per year to remain in circulation. The NRA's previous design sold only 219 plates in 2012.
Idaho currently has 38 specialty license plates.
