BOISE, Idaho — Rep. Steve Harris, R-Meridian, announced Thursday morning that he will retire from the Idaho Legislature.
Harris has spent five terms in the Idaho House representing District 21, and currently serves on the revenue and taxation, commerce and human resources, and transportation and defense committees.
"For the past 10 years it has been an honor and a privilege to serve the citizens of District 21 and Meridian and Boise in the House chamber," Harris wrote in a statement. "The trust you have shown has always humbled me. I have worked diligently to represent your interests at the Capitol and have always tried to serve with thoughtfulness and purpose."
Harris wrote that although he enjoyed his work as a lawmaker, "the time has come for me to move on."
The representative did not indicate whether his retirement would come immediately, or following the end of the 2022 Legislative Session. He could not immediately be reached by phone at the Statehouse.
"I remain committed to continuing service but in new ways," he wrote. "I would like to thank all those that have been so supportive of me over the years including family, friends, and total strangers. I look forward to spending more time will my family and finding new avenues to continue to support our community."
