Cemetery tours at Old Idaho Penitentiary

These guided tours give people a chance to learn about the prison cemetery and all the lore that goes with it.

BOISE, Idaho — Looking for an adult-themed outing? The Old Idaho Penitentiary annual cemetery tours are a way to learn a little about Idaho history, walk around the grounds and hear prison lore and quirky facts from the guide.

"Unlock the mysteries of the dead as guides explore where incarcerated individuals died, what their final moments were like, and where they are laid to rest. Discover why more than half the cemetery is riddled with "Unknown" markers (or often no markers at all) and why some names cannot be found in any prison register," a news release stated.

Cemetery tours are from March 16 to the 24 at 1, 2, 3, 5 and 6 p.m. daily. The price of tickets is $15 or two for $25. People can also use their tickets to self-explore the rest of the prison following the tour.

Note*

The cemetery tours are recommended for 18+

Cemetery tours are not wheelchair accessible and people with mobility issues should be aware that there are stairs, uneven ground and longer periods of walking.
