Ceremony recognizes organ donation in Idaho

The "Yes Idaho" Donate Life Coalition recognized its community partners at a Boise event.

BOISE - April is National Donate Life Month and Idaho is one of the top states in the nation when it comes to saying "yes" to saving lives.

This morning the "Yes Idaho" Donate Life Coalition honored local community partners.

They include the Idaho Transportation Department, Senator Lee Heider, and donor Lillie Kaster who have been an integral part of helping save lives through organ donation.

During the event, the 2018 Threads of Life Quilt was also unveiled. It was created with individual squares made by people with a personal connection to donation. Many of the squares honor a loved one who made the decision to donate or to celebrate the life of a transplant recipient.

"Ordinary people with extraordinary stories of inspiration, hope and courage create quilt squares as a means of sharing their story and spreading the word about the critical need and benefit of organ, eye and tissue donation," said Rebecca Simon, coordinator of After Care Services.

Currently, there are almost 300 people in Idaho waiting for a life-saving transplant.
