SANDPOINT, Idaho — Idaho State Police is investigating a two-vehicle head-on crash that killed a child and sent 4 others to the hospital.
ISP says the crash occurred at 8:35 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 22 on US95 near Elmira, north of Sandpoint.
ISP says a 61-year-old driver was traveling southbound on US95 in a pickup truck and moved into the northbound lane in an attempt to pass several other vehicles. The driver then crashed head-on with a car traveling northbound in the northbound lane.
The driver of the pickup truck was taken to a local hospital via ambulance.
The 33-year-old driver of the other car that was hit along with a 33-year-old passenger and a child passenger were also taken to a local hospital via ambulance. The fourth passenger in the car was a child that died on the scene.
ISP says the highway was blocked for approximately three hours with alternating traffic while investigators were on the scene.
