Cirque du Soleil fills up Taco Bell Arena

BOISE-- Taco Bell Arena is hosting its biggest event in the arena's history -- at least the biggest event in terms of equipment.

The Cirque du Soleil Michael Jackson Immortal World Tour is stopping in Boise Tuesday night.

It took 35 semi-trucks to bring the show to Idaho.

To get everything set up for tonight's performance the crew started unloading around 5 a.m. To make sure the show was set up in time, Cirque du Soleil hired around 75 local people to help. Even with the extra hands, it will take 11 hours to unpack and assemble everything.

The Immortal World Tour is breaking a record at the Taco Bell Arena. The show will hang 120,000 pounds of equipment from the arena's ceiling. That is the most weight hung in the arena's history.

We are pushing the limits in a lot of buildings, but that is what Cirque du Soleil is well known for, said Maxime Charbonneau, a publicist for the show. You know, it is going further and then higher and faster and pushing the limits and making sure that we have that show that will impress people and leave a good memory.

Charbonneau says this is unlike any other Cirque show. It still has the traditional Cirque du Soleil acrobatics, but the show has a rock concert feel.

To pull the show off it takes a cast and crew of 175 people. All of them stayed in Boise Monday night and most are staying again tonight pumping extra money into the local economy.

When the show is over Tuesday night the crew will pack everything back up and head to Denver.
