Elaine Clegg City of Trees Challenge provides free trees to Boise residents

The Elaine Clegg City of Trees Challenge is a way to provide free trees to Boise residents, to grow the tree canopy in the City of Trees.

BOISE, Idaho — The City of Boise is partnering with Treasure Valley Canopy Network to help fulfil the goals of the Elaine Clegg City of Trees Challenge.

The challenge is to plant 100,000 trees by 2030, and they are doing so by providing small tree starts to Boise residents.

The process works by submitting an order through Treasure Valley Canopy Network, located here. September is the time to order the trees, and come early November, they will be ready to be picked up.

The trees will come in a 3-gallon bucket, and will be able to fit in most cars, Treasure Valley Canopy Network stated.

There are three trees to choose from: Riverbirch, Sweetgum and Tuliptree. This fall, they are giving away 450 trees, a representative from the Treasure Valley Canopy Network said.
