BOISE, Idaho — An 80-year-old man has died after his vehicle collided with another north of New Meadows.

Idaho State Police (ISP) reported Wednesday that two cars crashed on Tuesday at roughly 7:45 p.m., leaving one man dead.

In Adams County, north of New Meadows, a blue 1978 Datsun 280z, driven by the 80-year-old man from Riggins, was going northbound on US95 and failed to take a curve properly. The driver tried to brake, sliding into a red 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 that was traveling southbound, police said. The Dodge was driven by a 71-year-old man from New Plymouth.

While both drivers had seatbelts on, the Datsun was not equipped with airbags. The driver died at the scene.

The driver of the Dodge had minor injuries. Both lanes of US95 were blocked for about four hours, and the crash is under investigation by Idaho State Police.

The identity of the Datsun driver may be released at a later date, once family has been notified by the coroner.
