BOISE -- Firefighters put out a house fire in southeast Boise Tuesday morning.
The fire was reported in the 5500 block of Tecoma Place at 7:01 a.m., dispatchers say. The house is near Trail Wind Elementary School.
Boise Fire Battalion Chief Steve Rasulo said the man inside the home was able to get out safely after realizing the garage was on fire.
"He said he heard a popping noise, opened up his garage and saw it was filling with smoke so he called 911," Rasulo said.
The man was not hurt. Fire crews had initially been told there was ammunition stored inside the home, and called for a second alarm.
Rasulo said the flames spread through the garage and started to burn up into the attic space, but firefighters were able to halt the blaze before it reached the living area of the home. The fire was contained by about 7:40 a.m.
"He did have working smoke detectors - they're still chirping away in there, too," Rasulo said.
