Valley County Sheriff's Office warns of dangers of ice baths

After a snowmobile incident on Monday, the sheriff's office posted warnings following our unseasonably warm weather.

MCCALL, Idaho — The Valley County Sheriff's Office (VCSO) posted a release warning folks of ice dangers this winter, after a snowmobile went through an ice hole on Lake Cascade.

With our unseasonably warm weather we've been receiving in Idaho, VCSO warns of the dangers of ice baths and lake conditions. On Monday, a snowmobile went through an ice hole left over after a bath that hadn't been fully frozen over again.

VCSO discussed the trend of taking ice baths in the lake, and how it can cause serious injury. They said, if you're planning to create a hole for an ice bath, please mark it clearly before you leave as to allow other recreationalists to enjoy the lake.

They also continued to say that the lakes in Valley County are not only a place of recreation, but also serves as routes for locals and visitors alike to enjoy winter riding.

VCSO urges those taking an ice bath in the lakes to be responsible and respectful, as things can turn to life-or-death very quickly.
