Dead ostrich, pig found in conservation area

The bones were found in the Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area.
The BLM is investigating after several animal carcasses were found in the Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area earlier this week.

NAMPA -- Federal authorities are leading an investigating in southwest Idaho after the bodies of an ostrich, a pig and three coyotes were found in the Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area.

Ada County Sheriff's Office spokesman Patrick Orr says deputies earlier this week discovered the remains of the five animals after receiving a tip.

He says officials with the U.S. Bureau of Land management planned to examine the site on federal land on Wednesday.

Orr tells the Idaho Press-Tribune that it's not unusual to find animal carcasses in the area but the combination of an ostrich, pig and coyotes is weird.

He says it's not clear who might have owned the ostrich and pig.
