Dozens of people attended a star party Saturday night at the Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge.
It's an annual event designed to get people interested in nature.
“We're just looking to connect people with nature,” said Nicholas Carlson, volunteer coordinator. “You know bringing them out to the refuge and having people look at the night sky from the refuge outside of the city and also getting them out here to see what Deer Flat has to offer."
The star party is basically a stargazing event. Members of the Boise Astronomical Society are there to help answer any questions you might have, they can also show you different stars and tell you about them and provide stargazing equipment. Their goal is to teach people about the galaxy.
“This is exciting because this is where we can generate other opportunities to go to elementary schools and stuff,” said Cindy Lee, education liaison, Boise Astronomical Society. “We do their stem programs and we do those outside and we do those inside."
There were also activities for the whole family that included an interactive star exhibit.
This was a free event and open to the public.
