'The World's Largest Dinosaurs' exhibition opens at Discovery Center of Idaho

Visitors get an inside look at how the largest dinosaurs’ circulatory, digestive, and respiratory systems worked with a 60-foot Mamenchisaurus display.

BOISE, Idaho — The Discovery Center of Idaho opened their latest exhibit ‘The World’s Largest Dinosaurs,’ going beyond their leathery skin.

Families can expect a hands-on experience geared towards learning more about the biology of long-necked and long-tailed sauropods.

The exhibition opened Saturday, Oct. 12th and runs through April 2025.

Discovery Center Education Director Erin Seymour said there is something for everyone in this showcase.

"I think that a really unique thing about it is the way that it incorporates all of these other relatable animals into kind of the dinosaur realm. So instead of just focusing on dinosaurs, it deep dives into all these different animals," said Seymour.

The center piece is a 60-foot Mamenchisaurus model with a projection on its side that walks visitors through how the animal would digest food and survive.

"Contrary to what we've had in the past, which has revolved a lot around theropods like T-Rexes, we've had Sue, we have our resident T-Rex Tinker. This is all about giant sauropods, so the long neck foreleg herbivores, or some of the largest land animals in history," Seymour said.

Hands-on displays offer comparisons to common creatures like cockroaches, hummingbirds, and crocodiles.

Other Discovery Center favorites like Tinker the T-rex are still available to check out.
