BOISE, Idaho — The Idaho Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is now allowing virtual appointments for renewing registration. They will have virtual appointments available starting Aug. 1 for renewing registration on your motor vehicle.
The service is only currently being offered for renewals but the DMV is looking into ways to offer more services. There are employees from several county DMV offices offering these virtual appointments, but they can be booked by anyone from anywhere in the state.
The DMV has been testing this feature for the last six months and is now ready to roll it out for the public. You can book an appointment online by going to the DMV's website and clicking the 'Schedule Motor Vehicle Appointment' link.
The appointments will be conducted via video conference, so you will need a phone, laptop, tablet, or other device with working video and audio to join. Guests are also encouraged to find a well-lit spot so that the DMV agent can see their faces during the appointment.
The DMV stated, "Do not attempt to complete your appointment while operating a vehicle. If this does occur, we will terminate the connection, and you will need to reschedule your appointment."
"We're always looking for more ways to serve our customers. Virtual appointments are great for folks who want to Skip the Trip to the DMV, but still want to talk to a real person," DMV Administrator Lisa McClellan said. "Our county agents will guide them through the virtual appointment and make sure they have all the help they need."
