BOISE, Idaho — On Nov. 1, Donald Mattocks’ body was recovered by Boise Police Department (BPD) on W. Overland Rd near S. Atlantic Rd. after being run over by vehicles multiple times.
It was determined that Donald Mattocks died at the scene that Friday night, and while his family is still looking for answers, his niece Megan Mattocks spoke with KTVB, reminiscing on memories with her uncle.
“We called him ‘Ducky’ because his first name is Donald. Donald Duck,” Mattocks told KTVB Tuesday. “And he was just a really humble guy.”
Mattocks said that she is hoping to find out more information as the investigation continues.
“Just knowing that I really loved him, and I'm really going to miss him,” Mattocks said. “I want to honor him and do whatever I can to, you know, have a better memory of him than how he how he left this earth.”
Mattocks said that Donald Mattocks was just a few houses away from his home when he was found by BPD on the night of Nov. 1, having been run over an unknown number of times.
Mattocks expressed gratitude for the adolescents that she said reported Donald's body being in the dark road that night.
“They are traumatized, to say the least, and that creates a whole level of heartache that you know you don't really expect,” Mattocks said, referring to the adolescents. “It's probably one of the most difficult things that they'll ever go through. So, I'm trying to do my best to just let them know that, you know, we thank them from the bottom of our heart.”
In a tragedy such as this, the Trauma Intervention Program (TIP) of Treasure Valley provides volunteers at the scene to lend expert assistance to the victims impacted.
In Donald Mattocks’ case, TIP was one of the first groups to arrive at the scene.
“We are on scene, I would say, an average of two to three hours,” TIP of Treasure Valley CEO Kymber Neal-Jenkins told KTVB Wednesday. “We'll stay until they get a next support person there. We believe people are resilient, and they were okay before we got there, and they're going to be okay after we leave.”
Donald Mattocks’ cause of death investigation is ongoing.
BPD and Donald’s family are still searching for information about that night. If you were in the area on that Friday night or have information that you have not yet spoken to the police about, you are asked to call the number (208)377-6790.
