GEM COUNTY, Idaho — A man has died after a fiery crash near Emmett on Sweet-Ola Highway in Gem County. According to the Idaho State Police (ISP) and the Gem County Sheriff's Office, the crash happened on July 5 near milepost 12 around 2:30 p.m. A 76-year-old man from Emmett was the driver.
Police said the man was driving a white 1990 Ford F-250 was headed south when they "failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway.
"The vehicle went off the roadway where it overturned and came to rest at the bottom of an embankment. The vehicle then caught fire, starting a brush fire in the area surrounding the vehicle. The driver succumbed to their injuries on scene," a news release stated.
The coroner will release more information as it becomes available, and ISP is investigating.
