Eastern Oregon fire crew puts training to the test in real-life rescue

Members of the La Grande Rural Fire Protection District had just wrapped up training when they received a call about a person who fell down a cliff face.

LA GRANDE, Ore. — Firefighters headed home from technical rescue training in eastern Oregon put that training to use right away.

Members of the La Grande Rural Fire Protection District had just wrapped up training on Mount Emily when they received a call about a person who was injured after falling at Indian Rock.

The patient was about 75 to 100 feet down a series of cliff ledges.

An EMT, a rope technician, and a La Grande paramedic rappelled down to the patient. The team then hoisted the injured person up the cliff face to an air ambulance waiting above.

In a Facebook post, the crew said they had just worked through a similar scenario in the training exercise.

The injured person's name and condition have not been released.
