BOISE, Idaho — Two citizens and Glenns Ferry Rescue earned recognition this week for their efforts in saving a critically injured driver following a crash on Interstate 84.
The Elmore County Sheriff's Office said the driver of a pickup truck suffered a severed artery in their arm and open chest wounds after the pickup collided with a semi-truck. The crash occurred just before 5:30 p.m. on March 26 near milepost 109.
After witnessing the collision, the two citizens worked quickly to place a tourniquet to stop the bleeding.
Glenns Ferry Rescue arrived at the scene within minutes and applied life-saving medical care, the sheriff's office said. Rescue personnel contained the area near the crash, which stretched across all three lanes of I-84, to eliminate other incidents with debris on the freeway.
The driver was safety transported to St. Luke's in Boise.
Elmore County Sheriff Mike Hollinshead recognized the two bystanders and rescue team during the Glenns Ferry City Council meeting on Tuesday, April 23.
"We are so proud of our County Rescue Teams and its citizens," Hollinshead said in a Facebook post. "We know that without them, our jobs would be significantly more difficult and much less likely to result in happy outcomes. Well done, team!”
