EMMETT, Idaho — Prior to the start of Thursday's classes, the Emmett School District (ESD) received a "direct threat," according to a Facebook post on the district's page.
The school district is working with law enforcement after canceling classes for all staff and students on Thursday, Feb. 8. The district will reach out to staff with any new information about next steps for instruction.
ESD released an update around 9 a.m. on Thursday, stating that a 'direct threat' to specific school buildings within the district was received by staff members in an email.
The school district then decided to cancel all classes at all campuses and rerouted school buses with students on board back to their homes, and the decision was made to cancel all classes, at all schools.
In a 10 a.m. update, ESD stated that law enforcement was performing a sweep of the buildings threatened in the email. The 11 a.m. update said the operation was still in progress.
In Emmett School District's final update at approximately 1 p.m., officials said that all school buildings were successfully "cleared."
Sports practices and events are going to be held in school buildings as usual. Classes will resume Friday as normal.
There will be more information about future in-session days and times to compensate for the loss of classes Thursday.
Idaho State Police and Gem County Law Enforcement are investigating the threat.
The school district thanked Idaho State Police, City of Emmett and Gem County Law Enforcement for their support. ESD added another thanks to the Gem County Emergency Manager for prompt responses, support and cooperation in the effort.
