PAUL, Idaho — The Amalgamated Sugar Company had a fire at its pulp shreds warehouse in Paul on May 10. According to the company, the fire started about 11:30 a.m. No one was injured and all employees were accounted for.
"The fire has been contained, and emergency responders are onsite working to fully extinguish it. We are working with the local fire department to determine the cause of the fire. While the fire caused damage to the pulp shreds warehouse, the rest of the facility remains unaffected and will resume operations today," the company stated on May 11.
According to the Burley Fire Department (BFD), it was asked to assist the West End Fire Department to control the blaze.
"Thanks to our hard working volunteers and career staff, Burley was able to provide three engines and one ladder truck. Working with West End Fire and many surrounding departments, crews were able to hold the fire to the building of origin," the BFD stated.
Crews remained at the site for some time to maintain safety as the fire was extinguished. The fire is being investigated by the local department.
