Brush fire near Horseshoe Bend contained, authorities say

The Boise County Sheriff's Office told KTVB one chicken coop burned down. The fire was contained around 5 p.m.

BOISE, Idaho — A fire that started on Thursday afternoon around Horseshoe Bend is now contained.

The Boise County Sheriff's Office told KTVB the fire burning near 3rd Street Circle was contained around 5 p.m., and one chicken coop burned down. The acreage is unknown at this time.

The sheriff's office first announced the fire on social media around 4:45 p.m. Emergency crews were on the scene, and structures were threatened at the time of the fire. It prompted several residents to start trying to contain the fire before fire crews arrived, said Todd Renfor, a Horseshoe Bend resident.

"I just got home from work and somebody ran in our shop and said there's a fire over here so I jumped on a cat and started digging line around it and ended up getting line around the whole thing," Renfor said.

The Eagle Fire Department assisted Horseshoe Bend Fire Department crews in fighting the fire.

The sheriff's office said that fire crews remain on the scene, eliminating any hotspots.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
