BOISE, Idaho — The old has turned into the new.
The Boise Fire Department unlinked a ceremonial hose to mark the reopening of an old fire station on Thursday. Fire stations typically do this instead of cutting a ribbon.
Fire Station 9 is located on Sycamore Drive.
Boise Fire Chief Dennis Doan says this station is a lot different from the old one because it is more energy efficient.
New to the station are solar panels.
Doan says it's part of the city's effort to go greener.
"From Station 4 that we built two years ago to Station 8 to now Station 9, we have tried to be as energy efficient as we can, and that's part of the mayor's goal for us and that's what we are trying to do," said Doan.
Construction on the new building began in October 2018.
