BOISE, Idaho — It's a somber sight, Idaho's sons and daughters laid in eternal rest under the guard of Old Glory at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery.
That is the price of freedom.
The names of thousands of American warriors forever etched in stone. Forever remembered.
A Memorial Day ceremony at the State Veterans Cemetery made sure that Idaho's fallen servicemember's will continue to be remembered for making the ultimate sacrifice.
"God bless we have warriors," former Idaho Governor Dirk Kempthorne said during the ceremony. "Wherever our troops are laid, America will honor and protect the remains in the strictest of highest military standards."
This year's Memorial Day ceremony marked the 20th commemoration of the dedication of the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery.
It was a somber scene - and a somber celebration. With similar ceremonies taking place across the state and nation to honor those who have served their country.
"I'm not sure that a lot of people really reflect very deeply on the cost of freedom, but it comes at a high cost," Marine veteran David Fisher said. "So many Americans have given their lives across all branches of service for the freedoms and the pleasures that we enjoy in our nation today....I am so grateful for the dignity and the respect that's shown here - not only by the staff of the, of the Vet Cemetery, but by everyone who gathers here. Idaho is a remarkable place in that regard."
