CANYONCOUNTY-- A former Notus city clerk is accused of embezzling more than $57,000 in city funds for her personal use.
According to court documents, Ginny Lindemann wrote checks totaling $40,000 from the City of Notus checking account payable to cash from Aug. 26, 2011 to Aug. 17, 2012. Additionally, she made $17,323 in personal purchases on a city-issued Visa card from March 11, 2012 to Aug. 17, 2012.
Lindemann wrote a letter on Aug. 20, 2012, to the Notus mayor and city council apologizing for her actions and offering to pay back the money she took from the city. It was Mayor Chris Collins and current Notus Clerk Reanna Trillhaase that helped authorities determine the theft had occurred.
A former boyfriend gave written and verbal statements outlining some of the items purchased and monies transferred by Lindemann.
A warrant was issued for Lindemann's arrest. She was booked into the Canyon County Jail on Dec. 28 and charged with grand theft by embezzlement and forgery. She has since posted bond and been released from jail.
No one in Notus wanted to go on camera, but tell us Lindemann is a nice person, and was well-liked in Notus. People also said she knows she made a mistake and is sorry.
She is due in court on January 18th for a preliminary hearing.
