10 cents less, gas prices continue to drop

With gas prices dropping in Idaho every week, GasBuddy discusses the future of gas prices and national averages.

BOISE, Idaho — According to GasBuddy, Boise gasoline prices dropped just over 9 cents per gallon in the last week. Of the 216 surveyed stations in Boise, the average price for unleaded was $3.51 per gallon as of Monday, Dec. 4.

Gasoline prices in Boise are down 26.5 cents per gallon from one month ago and roughly 43 cents less than a year ago. As for diesel prices, prices have fallen almost 5 cents in the last week - sitting at $4.18 per gallon as of Monday.

GasBuddy reports that the cheapest station in Boise was priced at $3.29 per gallon for unleaded, while the most expensive was $4.09, a difference of 80 cents per gallon. For the state, the lowest price was $2.94 per gallon and the highest was $4.19, a difference of $1.25 per gallon.

GasBuddy, a national gas price data collection tool, noted that the national average price had a 0.4-cent drop in gas per gallon, making the national average $3.21 per gallon. That average is down roughly 19 cents per gallon from a month ago, and 15 cents less than a year ago.

"We've barely eked out a drop in the national average over the last week, extending the streak to 11 straight weeks of decline, even as some states have seen prices jump, while others have seen prices continue to inch lower. Motorists can blame the OPEC+ meeting for causing oil to jump early last week and then plummet late last week for the volatility in gas prices," said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.

"The good news is that as the dust settled, OPEC+ agreed to barely move the needle, deepening their production cuts by an additional 900,000 barrels per day in 2024, with Saudi Arabia extending their own million barrel per day cut through March," De Haan continued. "However, that wasn't enough to offset concerns of falling global demand, which pushed oil back down to below $73 in Sunday night trading, giving hope that the national average still could fall to $2.99/gal by the end of the year."
