BEAR LAKE, Idaho — A 13-year-old girl drowned in Bear Lake on July 20. According to the Bear Lake Sheriff's Office (BLSO), "despite heroic life saving efforts," the girl could not be revived.

The sheriff's office said that they received multiple calls that a girl was missing off of the East Shore of the lake around 6 p.m. The girl was found in the water but was pronounced dead at the scene at 9 p.m.

At the family's request, the girls identity has not been released so they can communicate with family.

"The Bear Lake County Sheriff's Office extends our deepest sympathy to the family. And a heartfelt thanks to all First responders and the public who worked to try and locate the young lady. Tragically this incident emphasizes the importance of life jackets while engaging in water activities," BLSO stated.
