Global tech outage affects Boise Airport

The Boise Airport had 11 cancellations and 20 delayed flights as of Friday evening due to the global tech outage, according to Flight Aware.

BOISE, Idaho — The global tech outage Friday morning affected airports, banks, hospitals and even baristas. In Boise, airline passengers are feeling the effects.

As of Friday evening on July 19, the Boise airport had 11 cancellations and 25 delays, according to Flight Aware. Nationally, only 23% of flights were departing on time.

“We're just going to hang out at the airport for a while I guess,” said Brian Bossman, a passenger trying to fly from Boise to Atlanta.

Several frustrated passengers were stuck waiting at the Delta airlines ticket line, some said they were there for over two hours. Delta, United and American Airlines all had to ground flights on Friday morning due to the outage.

The outage was caused by a flawed security outage by Crowdstrike – an American cybersecurity firm. The Crowdstrike CEO confirmed it was not a cyber attack, but it still disrupted several people’s weekend plans.

“I'm here for work and it seems like about 20 of our work crew are pretty much stuck too,” Bossman said.

The Boise Airport said to check with your flight airline directly to make sure that your flight is on time. and said they may see the ripple effects of the outage for a few days, eve though the initial outage is resolved.
