BOISE-- Gordmans opened its doors in Boise Friday morning. The new store is located on ParkCenter Boulevard.
Store officials and community leaders held a ribbon cutting ceremony to mark the occasion.
In addition, Gordmans made a $2,500 donation to the Boise School District.
Boise Schools Superintendent Don Coberly told KTVB he's excited to have Gordmans as a community partner, adding that the donation will make a difference for students.
What we're attempting to do in the district is to establish a scholarship program for our kids from what we call the forgotten middle. Kids that might not have gone on to college previously, but we're now giving them that background to go on and this donation will help support scholarships for those students, said Coberly.
Throughout opening weekend, shoppers can also choose to donate a dollar to the school district by buying helping hands.
In addition to the donation, the new Gordmans store chose a nearby school to support as a long-term partner: Liberty Elementary.
Gordmans department store sells a variety of merchandise including clothing, furniture and toys.
The company operates 95 stores across the United States including locations in Meridian and Nampa.
