BOISE, Idaho — A Nampa snack facility is shutting down, with lay offs imminently for over 250 employees. Meaning, they all have to endure new opportunities.
In a statement from a Great American Foods spokesperson, they have decided to close their plant. They will cease operations in September of this year.
The statement from Amy Griffith, the spokesperson for McCain Foods, owner of Great American Snacks:
"After careful consideration and analysis, we have made the difficult decision to close our plant in Nampa, Idaho. After eight years of partnership in this close-knit community where we have built strong ties with our employees and their families, we know that transferring our manufacturing operation to other facilities will be impactful to the community."
She further added that they are additionally providing benefits to Nampa employees and will work with plant employees to help the transition into a new role.
McCain Foods has had a long history in Eastern Idaho, being a part of the Burley community for over 60 years.
Griffith said, "Since our expansion in 2017, we have invested over $400 million in Burley, which has been and will remain one of our major centers of operation in the United States."
Nampa Mayor Debbie Kling provided a statement following the announcement of the plant closure:
"It was unfortunate to hear McCain Foods will be closing their subsidiary plant, Great American Snacks in Nampa, which has been an important employer in Nampa for a number of years. Manufacturing operations like these are a perfect complement to our regional agriculture community. While these decisions are always difficult, I am pleased to hear of the efforts McCain Food is taking to care for their family of employees. McCain Foods is a critical part of our farming economy, and we wish them the best. Fortunately, Nampa has several other food-based employers who are looking for great employees. We are standing by to support their transition as best we can."
