Hailey residents battling high water as flood advisory continues

HAILEY, Idaho -- Residents in Hailey's Della View subdivision are piling up sandbags to protect their homes after as the Big Wood River continues to overflow its banks.

Photos shared by the Blaine County Sheriff's Office Wednesday show floodwaters covering yards and driveways.

A Flood Advisory was issued for the Big Wood River in the Hailey area Tuesday, with the water rising to 4.74 feet by 11 a.m. Wednesday. Although 5.5 feet is officially considered flood stage, at 4 feet - 1585 cfs - residents can expect water pooling in residential areas, including Della Vista and Gimlet subdivisions, according to the sheriff's office.

The advisory will remain in place "until further notice," according to the sheriff's office.

The City of Hailey said the Wood River Land Trust has amassed a group of volunteers willing to help sandbag where needed. Anyone interested in volunteering can call the WRLT at 208-788-3947.
